Where Your Adventure Begins

Make the drive to Echo Valley part of your vacation and enjoy the beauty that British Columbia has to offer. While all roads that lead to the ranch meet for the last 33 km of fantastic wilderness driving with breathtaking views of the Marble Mountains, there are also some gems to explore along the way.

Whether you travel north or south to come to Echo Valley, Highway 97 – the Cariboo Highway – is the road that takes you to Clinton, BC – about 51 km (32 mi) from Echo Valley Ranch & Spa. From here turn off Highway 97 at the Round-Up Motel onto Kelly Lake Road (sign posted as Clinton-Pavilion Road – turn left if coming from the South and right if coming from the North). Proceed along Kelly Lake Road for approximately 17 km (10 mi). Turn right at Jesmond Road (sign posted) – Jesmond Road is a well-graded gravel road – continue for 33 km to the ranch entrance on the left (sign posted). Turn left at the sign, the private drive to the ranch is about 1.5 km (1 mi.).

When you arrive at Echo Valley Ranch & Spa, drive past the barn and turn left to pull up in front of Dove Lodge, the main building, in order for us to welcome you and show you to your room.

The way from Clinton to Jesmond (Echo Valley) is the same – no matter which direction you come from. If you are traveling with the help of a GPS/navigation system, we recommend that you program the village of Clinton, BC as your destination and then follow our instructions from there. There is a lot of adventure to be had along the way, and unfortunately, some GPS systems will send you on very adventurous routes, like the High Bar Road – which is not suitable for every vehicle. We want you to arrive in Echo Valley ready for adventure and wellness, so please don’t hesitate to contact us prior to your trip if you have any questions!

Whether you’re coming from Vancouver or Vancouver Island (via ferry from Victoria or Nanaimo), take Highway 1 (east) through the Fraser Valley to Hope. Highway 1 continues north, alongside the Fraser Canyon, via Lytton to Cache Creek. Pass through Cache Creek and follow Highway 97 to Clinton.

Don’t miss this along the way: About 45 km past Hope you have the chance to explore Alexandra Bridge Provincial Park. A short walk from the parking lot by the highway takes you to Alexandra Bridge, spanning the Fraser River and giving you a glimpse of the route the pioneers took along the historic Cariboo Wagon Road. If you want to get an even better view of the Fraser Canyon, you should take a ride on the Hell’s Gate Air Tram, which operates in the summer months. Hell’s Gate is located about 25 km north of Alexandra Bridge and if you take the gondola into the canyon, don’t forget to try some of the delicious fudge in the Fudge Factory!

Take the Sea to Sky Highway 99 north through Whistler to Pemberton. Continue along the Duffey Lake Road (still Hwy 99) to Lillooet. Continue along Duffy Lake Road (Hwy 99) to Highway 97 and turn left (north) to Clinton.

Don’t miss this along the way: (if you are adventurous) In the summer months, and/or when the road is open, you can take a scenic gravel road short cut along the Clinton-Pavilion Road, through the Pavilion Reserve, through the Diamond S Ranch, up and over Pavilion Mountain to Kelly Lake. This shortcut is accessed off of Duffy Lake Road (Hwy 99), at Pavilion, between Lillooet and the Junction with Hwy 97. Turn left off Hwy 99 at the small green sign posted as Pavilion-Clinton Road, which will take you to Jesmond Road, where you turn left to drive the last 33 km to Echo Valley. This scenic short-cut route along the Pavilion-Clinton Road, between Pavilion and Kelly Lake, travels along a narrow gravel road with several step grades.

Take Highway 16 west to Highway 5 at Tete Jaune Cache. Turn left and continue south through Valemount to Little Fort. Then turn west on Highway 24 and pass through Bridge Lake, Lone Butte to 93 mile House then turn south on Highway 97 to Clinton. If you are coming from Bella Coola, you will also take Highway 97 south, after taking Highway 20 from Bella Coola to Williams Lake, and then joining Highway 97.

Don’t miss this along the way: Clearwater, BC – located about 300 km west of Jasper – is the gateway to Wells Gray, one of the biggest Provincial Parks in BC. The park boasts rich geological and cultural history and the famous waterfall “Helmcken Falls” is a must for anyone travelling through the area. A 71 km long gravel road leads all the way to Clearwater Lake and the many sights along the way can be enjoyed for a few minutes or even for days – before we welcome you to the comfort and natural luxury that is Echo Valley.

Take Highway 1 west from Calgary, through Banff, Lake Louise, Yoho National Park, Kicking Horse Pass, Golden, Glacier National Park, Revelstoke, Salmon Arm and Kamloops to Cache Creek. Turn right at Cache Creek and follow Highway 97 to Clinton.

Don’t miss this along the way: Driving west from Calgary offers a multitude of incredible sights along the way – you’ll have a hard time choosing! If we had to choose, we’d definitely take a drive in Kananaskis Country, just before Canmore. Only open in the summer, the drive along Highway 40 offers spectacular views and lots of opportunities for a roadside picnic. About 50 km down Highway 40 is Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, well worth the detour!

From Kelowna you can either take the Okanagan Connector (97C) to Merritt and then Highway 8 to Spences Bridge, where you join Highway 1 in the Fraser Canyon towards Cache Creek. Or, you can take the Okanagan Connector to Merritt and then Highway 5 (the Coquihalla) to Kamloops. From Kamloops, follow Highway 1 (west) to Cache Creek. Turn right at Cache Creek and follow Highway 97 to Clinton.

NOTES: We recommend that you fill your fuel tank at Clinton or Cache Creek. There is no cellular phone coverage in the area.
