Mount Bowman is a majestic part of the scenery in Echo Valley. We consider it our “house mountain” and it’s even part of our logo. We love watching the sunrise behind it and the sunset illuminates its rugged peak in the most incredible shades of orange and red.
While the view from the bottom is already amazing, the view from the top at 2,246 metres is nothing short of breathtaking and a well-deserved reward after a challenging hike. Mount Bowman is one of our signature hikes and also one of the most beautiful hiking destinations in BC’s Cariboo Region.

The Mount Bowman hike definitely requires a basic level of fitness, but the effort will be well worth it in the end. Once you’ve made it up to the top you will be rewarded with a magnificent 360-degree view over the beautiful Cariboo Region. You can enjoy the view of Echo Valley Ranch from the top as well as a panorama of the Coast Mountains over the Marble Range all the way to the Camelfoot Mountains.
If you’re feeling less adventurous you can choose to hike to the plateau – about two-thirds of the way – and enjoy the views from there. The first hour of the hike leads through flat terrain around the bottom of the mountain and during the second hour you’ll make your way up to the plateau on a bit more challenging path. The final part of the hike between the plateau and the summit is challening but most of our guests who tackle this hike just don’t want to stop.
How will You Unwind
After Your Hike?
Once back at the ranch there are plenty of opportunities to relax and unwind. You might feel like a soothing spa treatment or a visit to our sauna. Or maybe a short stroll to the pasture to connect with one of our horses.
A nap is always a good idea, and you might find the lower deck of the Dove Lodge just outside our games room a perfect spot for it. Of course, there’s also the sundeck by the Cariboo Spa, where you can take a refreshing dip in our indoor pool first.
However you choose to unwind after your hiking adventure, our team is happy to chat with you about all the options and book a spot for you in our spa and other facilities – for our 2021 season, all ranch facilities are reserved for one guest or family at a time.
